Oreo, Peanut Butter, & Brownie Cupcakes

I am a cupcake lover and I have recently gotten into experimenting making different types. I ran across this recipe and just knew I had to try these. Needless to say these oreo, peanut butter, and brownie cupcakes are rich with flavor. At first I could only eat half of one but they are so good that I forced myself to eat the other half. :) I wish I would have had some vanilla bean ice cream to go with these, but I settled for milk which I highly suggest you have on hand to wash them down with. These were very simple to make. Each cupcake has two oreos on the inside held together with creamy peanut butter and just add peanut butter to the top of the oreos that are being held together then pour on about 2 tablespoons of brownie batter (of your choice) and let it cover the cookies. I did add peanut butter to the bottom of the cookies that were being held together but the peanut butter just stuck to the cupcake wrappers so I don't recommend this, however the recipe I was using said to do so. I also wouldn't recommend using brownies with walnuts or pecans in them because this is an intense brownie/cupcake just the way it is. I hope you guys try these and enjoy them just as much as I have.

FooseBash!

I love car shows and I love when people give back. This past weekend I headed over to Braselton, Georgia to YearOne to attend their charity car show. One of the charities that the proceeds benefit is one that Chip Foose is a huge activist for, the Progeria Research Foundation. Chip Foose's sister died from progeria which is a rare disease that effects children. Every year he attends this car show to raise money by signing autographs and creating sketches. Last year he spent over 11 hours just signing. It's amazing that he takes time out of his busy schedule to come down to Georgia and meet and greet with over 1000 people. I commend him greatly for being such a determined activist.
The car show was fabulous with some great looking cars and I met some pretty cool people.
Everyone should volunteer in some way, and give back to those less fortunate.

I Collect Seashells by the Seashore!

Seashells Collected at PCB

Last Friday, 8/12/2011, my b.f. and I took an over night trip down to Panama City Beach. It was nice to be able to go and not have to focus on anything else but eating, sun, and the water. We stayed at the Fontainebleu, which was my first time. Staying there reminded me of the stories that my mom and dad use to tell me about when they stayed in PCB and how that was the "it" place to stay. Our tiny room had been renovated and had new appliances, paint, cabinets, etc. but you could still feel that sense of oldness. Anyhow it was cheap, $89 a night, and right on the beach... Right beside the private residence beach of Bid-A-Wee.
We had a great time, we ate at Angelo's steak house on Friday night. Steak, at the beach? WEIRD!, I know right? Well if you have been down that way you know that is the place to go and has the world best steaks. I have been going to Angelo's since I was kid and was always amazed by the HUGE bull outside. That night I couldn't wait to sink my teeth into a juicy steak, but for the first time ever my steak, on the inside, was tough. Boy was I sad.  I think it was just a bad cut of meat because it seemed to have a lot of what looked like tendons on the inside and they were tough to cut thru. Now, seeing as how a single meal generally costs $20, I had to complain. I didn't really want to because the taste of the steak was AMAZING, but I feel like for the price I should have gotten something better in return. The manager there was very nice and had me another entire meal cooked, sadly by the time I got it my b.f. had already finished his meal. The manager was generous enough to remove my meal from the bill and I sat there and ate my delicious steak.
Please keep in mind I am generally not the type to complain but I think I handled this quite well. Honestly we didn't even expect my meal to be removed I just wanted another steak,I do think it was nice that the manager took into consideration the fact that I would be eating alone. Needless to say we left our waitress a pretty hefty tip and left. I understand things happen and I will continue to go back.

On Saturday, we woke up and went to Jimmy Buffet's Margaritaville for lunch. I had a turkey burger, which is normally very good, but it turned out dry this time. I didn't complain and I ate it because any other time I have eaten there in the previous years my food has been amazing. I love that place, they play great music, and it sits right across from the beach in front of Pier Park. After we got done eating we headed out to the beach where we collected the shells above. Now, I haven't been down there since BEFORE the oil spill in the gulf. The water was so full of seaweed it looked black but the sandbars were clear so if you could make it out to one of those it was okay. Since my b.f. had just spent the week watching Shark Week on the discovery channel he was totally distressed about getting in that "murky water where sharks like to hunt". lol Well I braved it and went out into the water because I was roasting like a chicken in an oven and he decided to look for shells on the shore. After I got tired of trying to beat the tide I went up with him and started collecting shells too. What distressed me the most were these black looking shells and even a piece of sand dollar we found. We even found that piece of shell that looked like it had been burned. It made me wonder if these were shells that were effected by the oil spill. I have never seen so many black shells like we did that day it was very odd. I am not much of an environmentalist but it did upset me that a place that I grew up taking family vacations there was effected by the BP oil spill. I sort of felt violated. My mother has been in uproar since all of this took place and even stated if she was able to should would help with the relief effort, but after my visit there and picking up these shells I started to feel a bit of her anger.
After gathering shells we jumped in the car and headed home, my b.f. sunburned and me content that I got a mini vacation and was able to enjoy the beach.
Now, almost a week later, we are back in Athens, I'm back in school and he is recovering from sun poisoning because he thinks sun block is for sissies. I hope I get to visit again soon.

Until next time...

Beauty: Wet 'n' Wild Color Icon Vanity Palette

I'm writing a review on my favorite Wet 'n' Wild palette. I know what some of you are thinking.... "Wet 'n' Wild, seriously?" But hold your horses these palettes are truly amazing. They are soft, buttery like, and highly pigmented. To me, they are comparable to MAC. However I do believe that MAC has gone a little of track in quality since Estee Lauder bought them out, but that's just my opinion.

It might be a little late in the game to write a review about this palette because Wet 'n' Wild is phasing the six pan palettes out and soon it will all be about the 8-pan palettes. But on to the review....

This palette contains beautiful golds/browns in both matte and shimmer. I was not a fan of matte colors until I started using this palette. However, I must say that the matte powders are not finely milled so the colors can come out a little chalky looking. Going back to MAC, there are some great dupes in this palette that have been reviewed in other blogs online. I would provide a dupe list but I do not have the colors to compare in pictures, sorry about that. BUT you can google search for the dupes.

Skincare: Avon Solutions Plus Total Radiance eye gel

Avon's Total Radiance: Solutions Plus Eye Gel

I want to try my hand at some beauty blogging, so I am going to start posting some of my favorite items from my "collection".Just to let you know a little about my skin type; I am VERY OILY/Acne Prone and have some odd sensitivities that I have developed as I have gotten older. One of my big down falls that causes some nasty cystic breakouts for me is benzoyl peroxide. So I am always on the look out for things that will work with my mood swinging skin.

My mother has recently started selling Avon and if you walk into my bathroom you can tell someone is hustling this stuff. LOL
This blog is about this wonderful eye gel that is sold by Avon. It is called Total Radiance: Solutions Plus Eye Gel. I must say it has been a challenge for me to find an eye cream that would work with my overly sensitive eyes (I have terrible allergies), everything seems to want to run down into my eye and cause my eyes severe burning. This eye gel has been my savior. The box states: "This soothing eye gel refreshes and revives the eye area. Minimizes the appearance of undereye bags and helps brighten dark circles." I suffer from puffy eyes due to my allergies, before using this cream I would wake up some mornings barely able to open my eyes. I keep this product in my fridge so that it helps to de-puff faster and well it just feels good. I would say that this gel has helped tremendously with solving my problems of puffy eyes. As for the dark circles... I do have faint undereye circles caused from the respiratory problems(asthma)I have and the eye gel has helped with brightening around my eye area. I also like how the gel has a tightening effect and how quickly my skin absorbs it. My dehydration lines are diminished and my eyes appear more youthful thanks to the use of this eye gel. I got this when it was on sale for 2 for $11.99, and I must note a little bit of this product goes a loooong way. The eye gel is regularly priced at $12.50.
So if you're interested in having an eye gel that is great for sensitive eyes I recommend that you run on over to my mother's Avon page: http://paulawynn.avonrepresentative.com/

So I'm Sort of a Foodie too.

Burrito de lengua de vaca

I love good food, even if it means waking up at 8:00 a.m. to scurry off to the J&J Flea Market in Jackson County, Georgia. I love authentic food of any kind and here you can get the best authentic Mexican food in North Georgia. As you can see the burritos are MUCHO GRANDE size! I am only able to eat one half at a time. The burritos contain the freshest produce, much fresher than you would ever get at a "fine" Taco Bell establishment. The burritos contain things like pinto beans, corn, lettuce, and any meat of your choice all piled into a homemade tortilla. What's even more amazing is you get this delicacy for $5.00, I prefer the burrito de lengua de vaca which is translated into beef tongue in english. Hey now! I know what you are thinking... GROSS! right? Well beef tongue is considered a delicacy and tastes a lot like roast beef and no you don't get those little taste buds that are on a tongue (even I would sort of freak out at the sight of this). I will have more of my favorite foods to come, just thought I would start you all off with something interesting.

Macy's Southeast Intern Summit 2011

"Macy's future CEO's"

Since June 15th I have been interning for Macy's at the Mall of Georgia, located in Buford, Georgia. It has been an amazing adventure and overall new experience.

On July 19th I left for Miami, Florida at 1:30 in the morning to attend Macy's Southeast Intern Summit. 4 interns, 2 SLDP's and I arrived at the Miami International airport at 9:25 a.m., we were quickly whisked away in a Taxi with a driver that I thought was going to kill us. By the grace of God we arrived at the Marriott hotel that sits on Biscayne Bay at 10:15 where we changed into our professional clothing and left at 11:30 for the Southeast Regional office.

Upon our arrival we met with the rest of the interns from the Southeast which totaled right at 17. We started our day with introductions from the college relations staff and then went straight into working on a project that we have been working on for the past 2 weeks. We got to meet with one of the Senior Vice President' of Stores that gave some really great information to us on how to prepare ourselves to be successful. She gave us a list of books that have helped with inspiring her within her career. they are as follows:

1. Good to Great, by: Jim Collins
2. The Tipping Point, by: Malcolm Gladwell
3. Working with Emotional Intelligence, by: Daniel Goleman
4. The Gold Standard, by: Jamie K. Spatola
5. Monday Morning Leadership, by: David Cottrell

I can't wait to start this reading list. I am always open to suggestions on how to be a great leader. One of the best classes I have taken while in college has been a leadership development class. I think you should think of yourself as "wanting to be the person people learn from".

When we were done with meetings we went bowling as team interaction activity. I am happy to say I am the one that "got the ball rolling", literally. I broke the ice and was the first one that got out there and started bowling and from there everything fell into place. It was a great experience and we all just clicked.

On day two we left the hotel at 8:30 to go volunteer at "Feeding South Florida" for a few hours. Feeding South Florida is a food bank that distributes goods all over the tri-county. It was a rewarding experience and nice to know that I work for a company that is involved in giving back to the community. From there we went back to headquarters, had lunch and departed for our flight back to Atlanta.

This internship has been one of the best experiences I have had while I have been in college. You actually learn the business and everyone wants to see you go far and they are willing to help you get there. I hope my career with Macy's continues on for years to come.

What I Am Currently Reading....

After 25 years of life I have developed a love of reading. I was pressured a lot by teachers, throughout middle & high school, to read things that I wasn't interested in so I am assuming that is why I dreaded having to read an entire book, no matter the subject.

Right now I am reading "The Help" by: Kathryn Stockett. I told myself that I would read this book entirely before I went to see the movie. It's an interesting read, the setting takes place in Jackson, Mississippi, the "other south" as us Alabamians like to call it, during the time of Martin Luther King when blacks were "sharecroppers" and the south was still segregated but pushing towards integration. What makes this book interesting is how the author is able to capture the thoughts and conversations of every character in the book, including the wealthy white ladies and their help. Normally when I have read books that were written about the topic of race in the south I would get this biased outlook on just the view of the whites or the view of the oppressed minority. Kathryn Stockett really took this story to the next level by incorporating both views. She goes into what it's like being "the help" and working for the wealthy white family. What has been most intriguing is how these families rely on the help to raise their children and the children grow up to think of them as part of the family however, at some point of their young lives they pick up on the distance that must be kept between them because of their race. So the help goes on to work for the kids and raise their children and the whole cycle continues.

As for me growing up in the South (Alabama) and being a proud southerner the topic of how white families oppressed minorities is something that I would like to forget but it is a relevant topic that every southerner must face. My mother's family came from France in the early 1900's and lived in a French ghetto right outside of Birmingham. Well, I wouldn't say "ghetto" but it was a predominantly French area and very poor. I listened to my family talk about how coming up as an immigrant in the south was a real struggle so I feel I can connect to this book in a way that the average southerner can not.
I highly suggest this book to be added to your reads. It's an amazing compilation of views about what was going on during this time.

Until next time...
